My First Record

I have always loved music. Even when I was little. I listened to record after record (Yes, this was before CD's) and absolutely pounded them into my head. When we moved from Montreal to Toronto in the late 70's, we had this Mickey Mouse record player like the one in the picture (I think it was red). I loved that the tone arm was Mickey's arm! We were very excited to listen to some music in our new house, and we plugged it in. Smoke immediately came out. Turns out the plug was wired for 220v for some reason, where 110v is normal in Canada. End of that turntable. So we used out old one. A generic, beat up plastic thing, but it made the music come forth, so I didn't care.

I also remember my first record. I think I was 5 years old. We were at a record store, and my parents said each of us (my 2 brothers and myself) could have any record we wanted. I proudly came up to my parents bearing the album Love Gun by Kiss. The cover had them all decked out in their makeup, dragon boots, with lots of ladies on the ground before them. This is what I wanted. Not Raffi, not Sharon, Lois, and Bram. I love that record. I still have it. It has been played thousands upon thousands of times. My favourite song was Then She Kissed Me. I love the guitar hook! I am listening to it right now, and it takes me back to my beloved basement. Kiss: Destroyer was not far behind. More on The Basement soon...
